Reading - A Link to Learning

Learning to read is the starting point along the road of knowledge.  At Lear Educational Center we use the Wilson Reading System© to maximize the student’s potential to read, spell, and comprehend. These skills are fundamental to all learning. The Wilson Reading System© is highly acclaimed and widely-recognized for its success in teaching students at all levels, at all ages and for students with learning differences.

Lear Educational Center provides dedicated tutors certified in teaching with the Wilson Reading System©.  Our tutors teach total word construction in depth, not just phonics. Students learn to spell and to write as they learn to read.  Irregular words are also taught.

Vocabularies grow, reading fluency and comprehension advance. Focus skills are enhanced. Rapid recognition of words is essential to understanding what is being read and to recall what has been read.  In this way the student can reach the end of a paragraph retaining the awareness of what was read at the beginning.

Reading comprehension is necessary for the effective study of all subjects. It is not unusual for a student to complete the primary grades without having developed solid comprehension skills.  In the upper grades, when more independent learning through reading is assigned, this lack of skills becomes apparent as the student falls behind in class.  At Lear Educational Center we offer tutoring on all levels.

At Lear Educational Center we interface with schools, working with the curriculum appropriate for each student. We specialize in teaching students with learning differences, helping them further develop and expand upon their individual strengths, as well as meeting IEP and remediation goals. Our programs foster enthusiasm, comprehension, and retention so that students can effectively progress through more complex levels of study.

At Lear Educational Center we teach students with learning differences such as ADD/ADHD, Auditory Processing Disorder, Visual Processing Disorder, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Executive Function Disorder.

In addition to curriculum content, we teach study skills and learning strategies so that our students can meet the classroom challenges of today and those of tomorrow. At Lear Educational Center we provide academic coaching and tutoring to gifted and college level students as well.
