There are a variety of reasons why a student may have difficulty reading, spelling and writing. Among them is dyslexia. Dyslexia is usually diagnosed by a school psychologist or a speech/language pathologist who administers specific tests to the student and who has reviewed information regarding the student’s performance from teachers and parents as well.
Students diagnosed with dyslexia usually have normal intelligence and normal vision, yet they have difficulty processing language. Because they cannot readily identify speech sounds or determine how these sounds relate to letters and words (decoding), their ability to understand what they hear and to learn to read is hindered. Dyslexic students have problems forming words correctly because they reverse the sounds or confuse words that are different but sound alike, making it difficult for them to express themselves.
Reading well is a fundamental learning skill for all academic areas. Dyslexic students often fall behind in all subjects because they are unable to study effectively. Once a student has been diagnosed with dyslexia, it’s important to begin remedial intervention as soon as possible.
At Lear Educational Center, we specialize in teaching students with learning differences. We interface with schools, working with the curriculum appropriate for each student to bring him up to grade level and to advance.
We accommodate and compensate for learning differences, helping students meet IEP and remediation goals. We also teach study skills, learning strategies and techniques that help students meet the classroom challenges of today and those of tomorrow.
Each student receives individualized, personalized, one-to-one tutoring, encouraging him to maximize his potential.
Ongoing assessment of progress and review of the material to be learned lead to the achievement of mastery and retention before moving on to a new concept. This building of a solid foundation of knowledge and of study skills enhances the student’s self-esteem and self-confidence to learn the next level’s material.

Multi-sensory teaching (sight, hearing, touch and movement) to encourage and maintain interest.
Visual, spoken and written explanations of concepts which assist the students to image and verbalize the reasoning of the concept.

• At Lear Educational Center we provide one-to-one, individualized Academic Coaching and Scholastic Tutoring on all levels, primary through college, for most subjects and for most standardized tests. Study strategies, learning and executive function skills also are taught so that our students can best meet the classroom challenges of today as well as those of tomorrow.
